South Central Trees Get The Chop
Over 400 trees, many in South Central LA, will get the chop this week. The Space Shuttle Endeavour is expected to need to the extra room to maneuver through out the city. Many of the lovely aged trees will have to be cut down to stumps so the Shuttle may reach it's final destination at Exposition Park.
The trees will be replaced with saplings at a rate of 4 to 1 for now, but it will take up to 25 years for the trees to mature and provide the visual grandeur of the prior trees, if they make it that long.

Never Forget
Took this photo back in 1992.
It's the first time I ever saw the giant buildings in real life. Was amazed by how tall they were.
Shot this picture and made a photo-postcard for my LA friends back home, never did mail it to anyone. Thought who would wanna see this photo.
Well, here you are my friends.

Tommy Lasorda's Epitaph
Tommy is still recovering from a heart attack he suffered in June. In the meantime Tommy is already discussing what he want's printed on his tombstone. He told the Times in a recent interview that he wanted the Dodgers home schedule printed on his tombstone, so people visiting his grave would be able to see if the Dodgers were playing at home or away.
Here is a photo of Tommy pitching to the line-up back in April 1994.

Ghost Bike
A "ghost bike" was dedicated at the corner of Catalina Ave and Emerald in the city of Redondo Beach today for a friend and fellow bike rider, Larry Schellahase.
Larry was killed at the corner during a bike ride on April 12 when he hit some debris left on the path.
About 100 of Larry's friends showed up for the dedication and to honor his life.
Larry was a member of the LAWheelmen and achieved his goal of 6,000 miles on his bike last year.
I will miss his kindness and friendship.

Chinatown Anti-Walmart Protest
Thousands of Angelenos protest against the new Walmart which is under construction in LA's Chinatown. Union members, activist, and residents of Chinatown don't want the new Walmart to be completed. Walmart has faced criticism for underpaying their workers, forcing many of them to file for food stamp assistance.
Local residents also fear Walmart may force small unique business owners to fold due to cut throat competition practices, resulting in a loss of cultural identity of LA's Chinatown.
Today marked the largest protest against any Walmart to date and was lead by Walmart employees.
