LA Fire Print

Just finished printing of one of my favorite photos, "LA Fire."

This image was featured on two hit television shows, "The Closer" and "Major Crimes." It was shot as I attempted to drive down Topanga Blvd during a Santa Ana wind driven brush fire back in October 2008.
I quickly realized that I wouldn't make it through due to heavy sideways blowing flame, so I reversed my car stopping for a brief moment to shoot this image through my front windshield.

The final image is printed at a giant 60"x40" inches, and was produced and printed by the print masters of A&I Photo in North Hollywood, CA. It's definitely a statement piece. Only 10 prints will be produced for sale.

Creek Fire

A Santa Ana wind wild fire named the Creek Fire burned in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles. 30 plus structures were burned and the 210 freeway was shut down to traffic due to the fire burning across it.
150,000 area residents were evacuated from the Creek Fire and the 210 will remain closed over night.

Mt Wilson Burn

A small brush fire burned on top of Mt. Wilson near the community of Altadena. Quick response from fire crews and no wind made for unusually quick work of the fire.

Twilight Fire Fighting Ops @ La Tuna Fire

As day turns in to night, the water dropping helicopters of LA City, LA County, and Erickson continue in to the evening. New night time flying technology has extended the flight hours of fire fighting capabilities in to night. It's amazing to watch these giant choppers fly and drop water at night on the La Tuna fire, which is officially the largest fire in LA City history.

Summit Inn Destroyed by Blue Cut Fire

The historic and wonderful Summit Inn in Hesperia burned to the ground last evening due to fast moving Blue Cut fire. Not much survived from the fire, a couple of signs and china ware made it through. The fire rolled quickly through the area and fire fighters were spread too thin over the large fire area to protect the property.

Sand Fires Last Gasp

Firefighters and nature combine to end the brutal Sand Fire in Santa Clarita. The final back fires were set and nature added higher humidity to quash the last of the disastrous fire. The fire burned over 38,500 acres of land.

Scorched Earth.

CalFire Plane Downed

A CalFire Grunman S-2T Type III airtanker went down today fighting the 130 acre Dog Rock fire in Yosemite's back country.
No word yet if the lone pilot survived the wreck. The CalFire firefighting pilots are the best of the best. They often fly so close to the terrain to drop their retardants, you can see them inside the cockpit. They are among the bravest pilots I have witnessed, and fly in the most treacherous of conditions equal to any wartime pilot.
The Grunman can accurately drop 1200 gallons of retardant on a wild fire, and are often the first defense called in.

Colby Fire Air Battle (Updated)

A 3000 acre fire burned in the hills above Glendora earlier today. The "Colby Fire" was fought mostly from the air with Super Scoopers and helicopters.

Springs Fire (Updated)

Images from the "Springs Fire" in Ventura County near Point Magu.
The Naval Base at Point Magu also caught on fire.
The wind driven fire started in Newberry Park and travelled down to the Pacific Ocean in less than 24 hours.

The seasonal Santa Ana winds arrive in Southern California. Today they blew sand all over Santa Monica Beach at sun down.

LA County Fire Firefighting Aircraft

LA County's firefighting aircraft fleet is now fully ready to handle fire season.

A County Firehawk.

Two Canadair Superscooper aircraft on lease from Quebec, Canada recently arrived and will remain in LA till the end of December.
The Superscooper aircraft saw duty and made quick work of the fire yesterday, just north of Mandeville Canyon.
The Superscooper can literally scoop up 1600 gallons of water from a lake or ocean in a matter of seconds. The Air-crane can suck up 2200 gallons of water from a pool, lake or ocean, and the Firehawk can load up to 1000 gallons from a lake, ocean, pool, or firetruck.
Also on display today at media day were an Erickson Air-Crane "Helitanker," and a County owned Sikorsky Firehawk.
