The story was written by Patrick Range McDonald and is about the gentrification of Hollywood, and the population shift and exodus of Latinos to affluent whites.

The final stage.

The art project known as Levitated Mass is scheduled to the public soon on June 24th. The public will soon be able to walk underneath the 340 ton rock which roamed through the southland.

Final Touches on Levitated Mass

The final touches are now being applied to the art project known as Levitated Mass at LACMA. Tractors are leveling out the grounds around the giant 340 ton rock center piece, now covered by a giant green parachute.

Levitated Mass Settles

The LACMA art piece known as "Levitated Mass" has finally settled in it's final position. Work crews are now putting the finishing touches on the 340 ton rock and art installation.

Bullocks Wilshire Building

The Bullocks Wilshire building on the Wilshire corridor.
Built in 1929, the 73 meter tall building was considered one of the most elegant department store of it's time. It is now home to the Southwestern Law School.

Lenin Head On La Brea

A giant chrome Lenin head appears outside the Ace Gallery on LA Brea Ave.
The name of the giant sculpture is " Miss Mao Trying to Poise Herself at the Top of Lenin's Head," and is made by the Gao Brothers from China.

Ai Weiwei Zodiac Project Heads At LACMA

Artist Ai Weiwei's Chinese zodiac animal heads at LACMA. The twelve animal heads are re-creations of one's that adorned the Yuan Ming Yuan Palace located in Bejing, China back in 1750.
The original heads were looted by Anglo-French troops in the opium wars of 1860, during the destruction of the Yuan Ming Yuan Palace.
Ai Weiwei was detained on a visit to China last April and charged with tax evasion,  he is currently on bail in Bejing where he must remain while on trial.
This is Ai Weiwei's first major public sculpture exhibit.

Six L.A. Art Legends

Had the recent opportunity to photograph six legends of the Los Angeles art scene for the L.A. Weekly.
Brought my standard gear to each shoot, but ended pulling out the iPhone4 and used it as a camera with the Hipstamatic app.
I liked the Hipstamatics portraits so much more, and the L.A. Weekly ran several of them in this weeks issue.

Republican presidential candidate and Tea Party member Michelle Bachmann held a rally at the Orange County Fairgrounds today.
