Riding the Bu

The last remnants of hurricane Marie, now down graded to a tropical storm, hit Malibu's Surfrider beach today. Some rides lasted over 500 yards, and 10 foot waves were breaking at Third Point in to the late afternoon.
A couple of daring souls shot the pier, dodging dangling pier pylons from the damaged Malibu Pier loosened by the giant waves.

Big Wednesday @ The Wedge

Huge waves with some sets that hit 25 feet high at the Wedge in Newport Beach.
Surfers, boarders, and swimmers challenged the monster waves.
Hurricane Marie off the coast of Baja Mexico generated the high surf.
The waves are expected to get smaller by week's end.

Giant Yellow Duck and Tall Ships at Port of Los Angeles

A giant 40 foot tall yellow ducky and several "tall ships," which weren't very tall, sailed up the Port of Los Angeles' main channel this afternoon.
The yellow ducky created by Dutch artist Florentijin Hofman is said to be the world's largest, and has been in many of the world's harbors and ports.

Happy 68th Mr.Clinton

Happy 68th birthday to former President Bill Clinton.
Took this photo of then candidate Bill Clinton back in early 1991. The reporter I was working with, Harold Meyerson of the LA Weekly,  told me take the photo of him, said he was going to be the next president.

Echo Park Skater

A 22-year-old skateboarder was attacked and murdered while walking with his girlfriend on Sunset Blvd. near Laveta Terrace in Echo Park last Friday evening.
Three attackers stabbed the skater, possibly for his skateboard which he refused to give up.
A skateboard was tied on to a street post where the young man was attacked, in protest of the murder.
LAPD is investigating the murder which may be gang related.
The Echo Park is undergoing heavy gentrification, the area was heavily gang plagued and poverty stricken.

Car Wreck at Getty House

Was driving by the L.A. Mayor's residence, Getty House in Windsor Square, yesterday and saw this car wreck out front. 6th street was shut down for a block due to the accident.
Didn't get any official word on what happened, was on my way to another assignment. Looks like someone ran a red light.
Mayor Garcetti was not involved.
