Mr. Ruiz's Photo Class

Was teaching a workshop with Dave Wyman last week in New Mexico, and ran in to a group of young photographers. Turns out they were a photography class from a local Santa Fe high school taught by Mr. Ruiz. Was good to meet the next generation of photographers in a magical place like New Mexico. Only can wonder what things they will capture and see with their cameras.
The future looks bright.

Morning Walk

Had company on my morning walking near the Rio Grande Gorge today. A herd of Bighorn Sheep were out having breakfast as I walked by.

John

Met a homeless man named John sitting out front of a Smart and Final grocery store in Venice, he was begging for food. We spoke for a while. Found out he just got out of the hospital after trying to kill himself by slitting his wrist last week on the Santa Monica Pier. The hospital kicked him out after two days without any medication or further treatment. He puts on Neosporen twice a day to help heal his massive wound.

Lance

Shot this image of Lance Armstrong in Los Angeles back in March of 2009. He was on top of the world about then, retiring from the Tour de France as the all-time dominant winner.  At the same time, the forces of justice in sports was working overtime to turn his life upside down.
Haven't decided yet if I will watch his interview with Oprah this Thursday.

Historic Hancock Park House Burns

A 91 year old home in Hancock Park burned in a fast wind driven fire. The home, located across from the Canadian Consulate, lost most of it's roof and upper floors even though LAFD was on scene quickly.

First Cover of 2013

First cover image of 2013.
Landed the shot of a cracked Hollywood Walk of Fame star on this week's LA Weekly cover.
Shot the image with my iPhone5 using the Hipsatmatic app.
The story was written by Patrick Range McDonald and is about the gentrification of Hollywood, and the population shift and exodus of Latinos to affluent whites.
Check it out here.
