Venice Beach Freakshow

Visited the Venice Beach Freakshow on assignment for this weeks Argonaut newspaper.
Met some very interesting and wonderful people, and saw some amazing displays of oddity.
Highly recommend visiting the show. You can also watch their show on Netflix.
They are located on the Venice Boardwalk.

The Protester Revisited

It was almost three years to the day that I took a photo of a Occupy LA protester that changed both of our lives so quickly.
The photo of the protester, Sarah, was taken in front of the Bank of America building in downtown Los Angeles on 11 17, 2011 mid afternoon. She along with a couple hundred of Occupy LA protesters were locked arm-in-arm in a human chain around the bank building. Sarah and several others were arrested that day by the LAPD.
Three years later I find myself walking down the same street, Hope Street (ironically named?), almost the same time of day and date, covering another giant protest against Bank of America.
As I walk past the site were I took Sarah's photo, there are three stern looking security guards blocking access to the bank grounds with steel barrier fences.
I can look through them and imagine that day three years ago when Sarah and her fellow occupiers stood their ground against the financial giant.
So much has changed, and so much has stayed the same.

#Skidrobot Graffiti Art

LA graffiti artist #Skidrobot has been painting his new artwork all over Los Angeles and NYC.
The controversial work has definitely called new attention to homelessness in America.
You can probably follow him on social media or something like that, but I recommend seeing his work in person.

President Obama Signs National Monument Declaration

President Obama signed a declaration in to law marking most of the lovely San Gabriel Mountains as a National Monument.
More people visit the San Gabriel Mountain Range than Mt. Rushmore.
The San Gabriel range is about 360,000 acres large and will be our nation's 110th National Monument.

President Obama to Declare San Gabriels National Monument

President Obama will dedicate the San Gabriel Mountains a National Monument in a ceremony at the park this Friday. The 360,000 acre mountain area will be our nation's 110th National Monument, which are smaller than National Parks.
This will be one of the most beautiful and striking National Monuments.

CalFire Plane Downed

A CalFire Grunman S-2T Type III airtanker went down today fighting the 130 acre Dog Rock fire in Yosemite's back country.
No word yet if the lone pilot survived the wreck. The CalFire firefighting pilots are the best of the best. They often fly so close to the terrain to drop their retardants, you can see them inside the cockpit. They are among the bravest pilots I have witnessed, and fly in the most treacherous of conditions equal to any wartime pilot.
The Grunman can accurately drop 1200 gallons of retardant on a wild fire, and are often the first defense called in.
This image was shot at the Colby fire in Glendora last January 16, 2014.

CicLAvia in East Los

Did the CicLAvia ride yesterday.
Was way too warm out there, but had roll down some of LA's best streets.
Homeboy industries food truck was at Mariachi Square, their food and service was amazing.
