Happy 127th birthday to the Yosemite National Park.
The park was established by an act of congress on October 1, 1890.

CalFire Plane Downed

A CalFire Grunman S-2T Type III airtanker went down today fighting the 130 acre Dog Rock fire in Yosemite's back country.
No word yet if the lone pilot survived the wreck. The CalFire firefighting pilots are the best of the best. They often fly so close to the terrain to drop their retardants, you can see them inside the cockpit. They are among the bravest pilots I have witnessed, and fly in the most treacherous of conditions equal to any wartime pilot.
The Grunman can accurately drop 1200 gallons of retardant on a wild fire, and are often the first defense called in.

Yosemite Grant Act 150th

The Yosemite Grant Act was signed in to law 150 years ago on this date by President Abraham Lincoln. Even during the middle of the civil war, President Lincoln knew preservation of our land and natural resources was important. Hoping future politicians will learn from this incredible act.

How I Made My First Selfie

I was photographing in the Yosemite National Park last month. Was crossing on a small bridge over a spring river. Stopped in the middle of the bridge and extended my arm out in front of me, manually focusing on my open hand. Took my Canon DSLR with a 16-35mm zoom lens set at 16mm, then pointed at myself. I raised it above my head and fired off a couple of photos, and voila, my first selfie.
Amazing what POV can do.

Moonrise Over Half Dome

Took a trip to Yosemite National Park last week. Was inspired by Ansel Adams' birthday a couple days earlier and took this image at the tunnel view lookout in tribute.

Saw a mostly full moon begin to rise and peak out over Half Dome for a couple of minutes before it disappeared again.
