The Space Shuttle Atlantis left Edwards Air Force Base this morning heading back home to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The shuttle was piggybacked upon a specially outfitted Boeing 747-100. The trip home should take about two days, the ferry flight does not fly during the night time.
The 747 flight crew will Twitter updates during the flight, according to NASA.
The Shuttle Atlantis mission (STS-125) logged over 5.3 million miles on their 13 day journey, and conducted 5 space walks to repair NASA's Hubble telescope.
