Duarte Fires

The Fish Fire and Reservoir Fire in Duarte converged today.
117 degree temperatures made it difficult for fire fighters and local residents to deal with the fires which still are burning out of control in the hills above Duarte, CA.

Sanders Election Day Rally

An election day rally for Bernie Sanders who lost the California Primary to Hillary Clinton, was held at the Barker Hanger inside the Santa Monic Airport.
He defiantly vowed to continue his campaign all the way the next month's convention.
Sanders gave a shorter than normal speech and was visibly sad and tired from the election.

Bernie Sanders' Los Angeles campaign headquarters at the defunct Johnies Coffee Shop Restaurant at Fairfax and Wilshire Blvd. The restaurant is featured in several commercials, tv shows, and films including "Reservoir Dogs" and "The Big Lebowski."
Bernie's is now open to the public until election night, June 7th. They have decals and posters for sale to support the campaign along with volunteer sign ups.
It's a great also a great opportunity to see inside the coffee shop which is generally closed to the public.

24 Years Ago in LA

Twenty-four years ago today, Los Angeles burned in rage in response to the not-guilty verdicts in the brutal beating case of Rodney King by four LAPD officers a year earlier.
Hundreds of LA businesses burned and were looted, fifty-five people were also killed in the three day period beginning on April 29, 1992.

18 Years Ago LAFD Firecopter 3

I remember covering the crash of LAFD Firecopter 3 in LA's Griffith Park eighteen years ago.
My friend photojournalist Douglas Burrows and I heard about it over a scanner and drove over to the park.
It was a sad day and difficult to cover knowing that four people perished in the crash.
To this day it remains the largest loss of life of active fire personnel in LAFD history.

25 Years Ago in Los Angeles

25 years ago on a dark street in Los Angeles, Rodney King was severely beaten by four white LAPD officers after a police chase. The beating was captured on video by a fellow citizen testing out his new camera.
The officers were put on trial in nearby Simi Valley. They were found not-guilty and our city rioted and burned in rage.

Silverlake Homelessness

Affordable rents and housing continue to disappear in Los Angeles.
The homeless population continues to rise and take shelter under the bridges of Silverlake as the city continues to little or nothing about it.
