Here are some juxtaposed images I rephotographed 25 years later after the LA 92 riots.
Some things and places remained the same, and others completely disappeared.

S.Vermont Ave Corridor

Images from the S.Vermont Corridor in South Central Los Angeles. The area has seen very slow growth and redevelopment since the 1992 rioting. Developers and land owners have balked on several large developments and nothing is planned for the near future. Land speculators are waiting for gentrification to arrive, and large businesses and projects have been scared off from the 1965 and 1992 LA riots.

No Justice No Peace 2017

A photo I took back during the Los Angeles riots of 1992 now hangs on a banner fairly close to the place I snapped the image.
The image is of a young kid standing in front of a burned down building on W. Adams Blvd. in South Los Angeles. The banner is for an exhibit at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles titled "No Justice No Peace LA 1992."
I have some images featured in the exhibition.

100 Days

A peace rally calling for the end of gang violence in South Los Angeles was held in Hawthorne, CA. The rally was held in response to a long weekend of gang shootings in South Los Angeles. The hashtag 100days100nights is being circulated in social media by possible warring gangs promising 100 days and 100 nights of violence.
LAPD's South Bureau was put on tactical alert after the shootings. The city of LA is experiencing a rise in violent crimes this year.
The rally was held in the city of Hawthorne due to safety concerns to the rally participants which included several parents of children killed by gang violence in South Los Angeles.

Protest in South Los Angeles

Family members, attorneys, and civil rights activist held a press conference in South LA today calling for criminal and civil rights violations charges against a CHiP officer who beat Marlene Pinnock on a LA are freeway last week.
The beating was caught on video by a passing motorist, and is being called the new "Rodney King" video.
The beating is under investigation by the CHiP.

South Central Trees Get The Chop

Over 400 trees, many in South Central LA, will get the chop this week. The Space Shuttle Endeavour is expected to need to the extra room to maneuver through out the city. Many of the lovely aged trees will have to be cut down to stumps so the Shuttle may reach it's final destination at Exposition Park.
The trees will be replaced with saplings at a rate of 4 to 1 for now, but it will take up to 25 years for the trees to mature and provide the visual grandeur of the prior trees, if they make it that long.
